We love Thai food and cooking, so before we landed in Thailand we knew that we wanted to take a Thai cooking class. Fortunately, Chiang Mai is full of cooking classes so we had many to choose from. We ended up picking Asia Scenic cooking school because some fellow vegetarian travelers, Simon and Erin from Never Ending Voyage, recommended this one. Honestly, I bet all of the cooking classes here are amazing, and yes, I would be willing to test that theory out. 🙂
For this cooking class we chose the full day, in town experience. Other options were half day in town and full/half day at their farm in the country. We were picked up from our apartment around 8:40am, zipped around a bit to pick up other cooking students and then made it to the school around 9am. The school is in the old city down a charming one lane road (with other cooking classes nearby). After taking a tour of the local market to learn about thai ingredients and then touring their garden we headed back to the kitchen area.
First, we had a welcome snack that was incredible, the flavors included all five Thai flavors (sweet, salty, spicy, sour and bitter) and just burst in the mouth. I want to serve this pre-appetizer at home! No worries, I will post the recipe soon. After our snack we spent the rest of the day cooking, learning and eating. It was a fabulous day and we would recommend it to everyone!
